Pre and Post Operative Instructions
If lab orders are required, please schedule an appointment with your primary care doctor. These labs must be completed 7 to 10 days prior to surgery. If the labs are not completed, it may be necessary to delay or reschedule your surgery.
Do not take aspirin, aspirin products, ibuprofen or non-steroidal anti-inflammatories in the 2 weeks prior to surgery as these may thin the blood and cause excessive bleeding. Various herbal and other over-the-counter medicines can have a similar effect. If you are taking these medications, please call our office for a detailed list of safe medications. If taking pain medication, a non aspirin product like Tylenol is safe.
If you become ill, please contact our office. If you need to cancel surgery, please give 72 hours notice so we may fill the time with other patients who need surgery.
You will receive a confirmation call from the surgical facility 1–2 days prior to surgery. They will give specific instructions for registration with that facility as well as directions. Please ask any questions about the facility that you may have, at this time.
Do not eat or drink anything 8 hours prior, including water. If you take medications in the morning, bring them with you. The anesthesiologists may ask you to take it with a small sip of water.
Arrive at the hospital 2 hours prior to scheduled surgery time to fill out paperwork and allow the personnel to prepare you for surgery.
After the surgery, your doctor will tell you when you need to return to the office. You will need to call and schedule an appointment.
Please note that these instructions are only general guidelines. Your doctor may give you specific, additional instructions after the surgery. If there is any discrepancy between the instructions on this Web page and what the doctor has told you, follow the doctor's specific instructions. If you have any questions, please check with your doctor.
